Case study: two local holiday accommodation sites

I've been running some local publicity and got a couple of small projects from that. One of the things Scarborough has a lot of is holiday accommodation, so perhaps its no surprise that two got in touch. They don't prove anything major from a technical point of view, nor do they demonstrate my graphic design abilities, but I include them to demonstrate what you can get on a very tight budget.

If you're running a small b&b or holiday cottage it's hard to see how spending thousands on a website might make a difference, although I have developed some great ideas that I'll keep to myself for now. Anyway, both these sites were completed very cheaply indeed and both within a week. I took the photographs for both.

The first, Cosy Beamed Cottage is a holiday cottage in Cayton. I put in the map and photograph links because I didn't think anyone would know where Cayton is. I also included a rudimentary photograph-based walk-through at my own cost because I wanted to demonstrate how it could be done without any Flash nonsense.

The second, Bramblewick Guest House is just what it says. I was really impressed with the comments in their guest book. Update: This site has now been updated, see new case study.

I didn't charge Cosy Beamed Cottage for all my time because I wanted to try the walkthrough idea myself to see if it would work and I spent quite a bit of time piecing the photographs together, but if I had it would have been £750 overall, including the trip to Cayton to take the pics. Bramblewick Guest House was rather more reasonable at £250, the client providing the text helped keep the costs low.

Both clients said they really liked what I did and I'm working with both on further small projects, so all is well.
