A semi-detached, brick-built, former railway worker's cottage, built in the 1830s and situated in the pretty village of Ruswarp, approximately 1.5 miles from Whitby, with a riverside location on the banks of the River Esk. The cottage provides easy access to both the coast and the North York Moors with bus and train services into Whitby. Steam trains pass by on regular summer services.
The accommodation is spacious, successfully mixing old and new to provide holidays for families or couples. There is night store heating throughout and immersion heated hot water. Electricity is included. The cottage is a "no smoking" property and is unsuitable for very young children or pets.
There is a cosy sitting room with additional electric fire, colour TV, VCR/DVD player, radio/CD player. A separate dining room plus fully fitted dining kitchen with electric cooker, fridge, freezer, washer and microwave.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin. Bed linen and towels are provided. The shower room comprises shower cubicle, wash basin, WC and heated towel rail.
Outside there is ample off-street parking for 2 cars. The cottage has access to the owner's garden of approximately 1 acre and includes lawns, flower beds, kitchen garden, fruit trees, greenhouses, wildlife areas, pond and river bank (very young children should be supervised).
Ruswarp is a picturesque village in the lower Esk Valley. There are local shops (an excellent butcher and mini supermarket), church, pub and café within walking distance. Fishing, boating and golf are also available in the village. The popular Esk Valley walk runs through Ruswarp before ending in Whitby. The area provides a variety of wildlife including otters, seals, kingfishers, badgers and herons.
There is plenty to explore from Coast to Moors, including many quaint fishing villages, the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, museums, walks and cafés.

The cottage is owned and run by Mrs Joan Hall who lives next door and offers a friendly welcome and on-the-spot help. The cottage is open all year round and is available for short breaks. Your holiday can begin on any day (not just Saturdays) subject to availability. The cottage is available from 4.00 p.m. on the day of arrival arrival until 10.00 a.m. on departure.
