This is the third incarnation of the Café Heart website (previous). We love the cafe and the people involved, and last year they won the Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Awards 2006: Cafe/Bar of the Year and one of the things the judges took into account was their website.
Since then, they've designed and had built a lovely new extension, increasing the covers and making it an all-year round delight.
Plus, they've changed their menu, and there are two prices now .. one to eat in, and one for take-away.
Again I did the photo shoot, this time at 9am on a rainy winter's morning. I think that shows, I'll have to go back and do some summer shots too. I did check the weather before I set out, but the rain wasn't forecast until later and didn't happen until I got there, so, that's life.
This site is always done on a tight budget .. you have to sell a lot of cappuccino's to pay for a web page .. but we keep improving it as we go along and I think it looks rather spiffing now. This time, besides new photographs to reflect the new building, they wanted a take-away menu and an eat-in menu. The take-away menu should be printable.
The original take-away page wasn't printing well because the three column table layout required a set width on the left and right columns for photographs, and that squeezed the middle column to nearly nothing when viewed on A4 (which is portrait, rather than a screen which is landscape). So really, our fast and cheap early design had bitten us back. Barring redesigning the site (I can't do that, the clients really like it) I could only make a new printable page version, so that's what I've done, and I made it simple and removed most of the pictures because I didn't think customers would appreciate us using their ink.
This amendment took about 14 hours overall, so cost about £560.
The client said "the site's looking lovely".
